Hey guys,
I thought I would put together a thread with some helpful forum codes...

If you want to know how to do something, or if it is possible, just ask here!

Image Code (just a basic embedded image...):
[img]image URL here[/img]

Link code (just a basic hyper link code that makes it so you can have a different text displayed, rather than the URL):
[url=URL HERE]Displayed text here[/url]
Example:
Rather than having: http://airsoft-barracks.com
You can have something that says: CLICK HERE

Image link code (an embedded image that links somewhere...):
[url=desired URL here][img]image URL here[/img][/url]
Example:
Posted Image
^^ the picture links to airsoft-barracks...

Image Downsize code (a code to downsize your embedded images):
[img width=500]Image URL here[/img]
(500 pixel width keeps the page from expanding... The height will keep in proportion to the width if you change it, :P)
Example:
[img width=100]http://www.global-b2...Frame_Frame.jpg[/img]
^^ that is the same picture above, but changed to 100 px wide...

Image thumbnail (downsized image, with link to high res image...):
[url=desired URL here][img width=500]Image URL here[/img][/url]
Example:
[img width=100]http://www.global-b2b-network.com/direct/dbimage/50263611/Double___Frame_Frame.jpg[/img]

Code Code, displays an image, hyperlink, or other code, without pasting the object itself...:
[code]Insert code here[/.code]
Note: There is no period in the closing tag, that is only so it displays right...

More codes to be added soon!!!

Test.

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ihk3BHXu4S4&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ihk3BHXu4S4&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

edit: guess not, carry on.

http://www.youtube.c...diAMEJiIo&hl=en

Youtube videos in the forum, Yay!

[flash=425,355]http://www.youtube.com/v/DddiAMEJiIo&hl=en[/flash]

This is a multi part procedd but it's not that hard.

You cannot use the direct link URL from youtube, or the url from the video's own page. You need to get the url from the EMBED CODE

OK... this is what you have to do. On the PAGE for the youtube video you want to embed... you need to copy the EMBED code to your clipboard.

Then TEMPORARILY paste that code into your forum post window like so:

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DddiAMEJiIo&hl=en">
</param><param name="wmode"value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.c...diAMEJiIo&hl=en
" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Next find in that code (which is html, and wont work in the forum) the url listed following the embed src=. I've highlighted the url location in my example above.

Next type out the following code:

[flash=425,355][/flash]

Now past the copied url into that code as such:

[flash=425,355]http://www.youtube.com/v/DddiAMEJiIo&hl=en[/flash]

Then delete the temporary html code you got from the youtube video page.

I seem to have lost editing privilages... So, can a mod add what BP said to the initial post (and say something about BP writing it?).

Also, I would like to add this after it:

Not only can the
[flash][/flash]
element be used for Youtube vids, you can insert flash movies, or elements.

All you need, is the direct URL to the .swf document. ex.

and insert the URL in between the flash tags...

Though I think they might want to discourage using flash in the forum except for youtube videos... people have used flash to do some nasty stuff

So.. as an example:
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihk3BHXu4S4[/youtube]

Notice where the YouTube link leads?  To the page!

Sweet, I'm guessing that you inserted the youtube html embed code into a custom bb code right?

Unfortunately, SMF does not have a custom BB code feature... So I used a mod instead.

But if I had used custom BB code, it wouldnt work with the standard YouTube page but only with the embed link.

is there still a way to embed youtube vids onto pages? been trying to figure it out, but im now stretching my coding knowledge to its limit.

sorry to necro, but it is pinned.

NVM, i figured it out. i just had to change to the rich text editor and flex my html skillz.

EDIT
wait, its not working, well, the embed coding from youtube isnt working. ill probably figure it out though.

[youtube]video id here[/youtube]

Video ID is found at the end of the Youtube video URL. For example:

youtube.com/watch?v=4FXPArCf128

so you just need the ID? thats why it wasnt working.

also, how come you cant really use full html in the rich text version? i clicked on the button to see full html editing, but it really wasnt "full". all there was was my words and break tags. no paragraph tags or any other editing code.

thats dashboard code, not HTML, though, changing the brackets to < and >, it works the same way. but, i would think those codes would work, though they weren't present. but, changing to HTML just to do that seems pointless when the normal editor allows that.

Um...I'm referring to the OP... I'm saying they should add those. I know HTML is like that.

There is a difference between bbcode and html code.

Html coding will not work within this forum.
