Hi everyone,

No I'm not lost, and yes, we do have plenty of airsoft forums back here Posted Image
I just wanted to share experiences and get to know how you guys play your Airsoft over there.

My name is Nuno, I am 34 and currently my loadout includes a KA SW M&P 15 MOE and a SOCOM gear 1911 MEU.
I also have an M4a1 CQB from Cybergun, and a VFC SCAR L CQC.

Cheers
Nuno

Welcome to Airsoft-Barracks!

How are the airsoft laws over there?

Hi FNH,

Thank you for welcoming me into this community.
Our Airsoft laws are quite strict here:
  • We need to belong to an Airsoft Association and have a AA card to buy AEG's
  • Since all replicas are considered war weapon reproductions, we are required to partially paint our guns in fluorescent yellow or red (on the barrel, 3cm and stock around 9 cm), especially for transportation.
  • Once on the field (that has to be approved and authorized by local law enforcement) we can hide paintings.
  • Also in terms of power, they must not have more than 1,3 joules
  • In terms of FPS, the limit is 374fps
Here is how some of our guns look like:

We are constantly working with lawmakers and law enforcement representatives in order to improve these laws and make Airsoft a recognized sport by the parliament.
But its not an easy task and some divisions and quarrels with some AA's (since we have several - around 5 or 6) have been stalling the process.

Apart from this, Airsoft in Portugal is a growing sport and we have tons of games and events throughout the year. Plus in my city, we practice at least every sunday, such as happened today!

How about over there, how are your laws?

Best regards:
Nuno

Thanks so much for sharing what your laws were! I would love for our nation to follow these laws. When you are at a field, can you remove the painted bright parts and replace with black parts?

Our laws are much more relaxed.
-not law, but all retailers makes it so you have to be at least 18 years or older to buy an airsoft replica\
-orange flash hider has to be on at sale
That's pretty much it for federal laws.

My region of the US is making it so airsoft guns would be considered firearms. Pretty much making it so we can't play airsoft.

Well, the law states you must cover those parts, but most of us do change them with black parts once in the field. Its sort of a compromise and generally law enforcers are sympathetic and understand this.

I forgot but you can only buy an Airsoft gun here if you are 18 or older. If you have between 16 and 18 you must present your parents or legal guardian's permission.

As for your laws, I thought the flash hider in red was mandatory.
I also saw something about a bill in California being proposed that would force everyone with an Airsoft gun to have it fully painted or transparent and how this would be terrible to the sectors economy.

One of the thing we lack in our country when comparing to the US, are specialized venues for Airsofters to play. I saw in some videos you guys have a lot of camps with comercial companies behind them making some spectacular games with all the bells and whistles.

Here we have a lot of space to play but we are still lacking on the commercial and entrepreneur side of the sport so we can have more and better conditions to play.
We do have some very popular and renowned annual events such as Oscar Mike, in case you visit us this is THE event to attend :)

Welcome to the boards!

For sales, an orange tip is required. Transportation doesn't matter, but it's good to keep it on during transport just in case. If you're caught with an airsoft gun with no orange tip in the back of your car, you're not gonna be in any trouble though. I keep an orange tip on unless I'm playing or taking photos just to be careful.

I thought you had to play with the brightly colored parts still on the gun. However, I'm getting all my info from a guy in Ireland. That's a long ways from Portugal.

Is 347 FPS the limit for just AEGs, or does it cover Support Gunners and Sniper rifles as well?

Hi Fyzix,

Yes Ireland is a whole different story.
As for FPS limits, unfortunately support and sinpers are also bound to this limitation :(

Legislators need to be more sensible to our needs and to what this sport is all about, but it will take some time and effort.

Nevertheles its very fun to play Airsoft here in Portugal :)

One question, I've noticed this forum is associated with a store.
There might be some items I could be interested in. Do you ship internationaly?

Nuno

I like the videos that are posted to that website.

And "fyzix" you are thinking about UK laws. Portugal is not even close to being part of the UK.
