Good evening all, my name is Jim. I found this website by accident and have enjoyed reading the various topics being discussed and decided to join the fun. I'm relatively new to airsoft. The first time I heard of airsoft was when I was stationed in Japan in the early 90's. I went into a store in Okinawa loaded to the ceiling with every type of firearm in existence. I naturally started asking to see them and it took me a moment to realize they were not actual firearms. Before leaving the store I purchased a copy of a Smith and Wesson automatic pistol and a sack of BB's as a souvenir. About a year after I got home I ran out of BB's and they were not available in the states at that time. That pistol went into a drawer never to see sunlight until about five years ago. I was talking to a friend about it and he asked me if I would sell it to him and I did. Little did I know My son was getting into airsoft and now it's been about two years since he started playing. My daughter has joined him and is doing surprisingly well keeping up with the boys. She is fearsome and lethal; wielding the mighty M-14 that is almost as tall as she. I have talked her into using an MP-5 that I just purchased but I think she still likes the M-14 because of the range it offers her. On my profile I wrote:

My personal collection is very limited since I'm only just getting started. I'm mostly here to learn about airsoft to help my two kids who are into playing airsoft. I want to learn how to make the guns we have more accurate and reliable. There are countless questions that I have that I'm sure have probably already been asked so I'll use the search features as often as possible before posting. I'm looking forward to this new adventure and to get to know a lot of you guys.

What I didn't mention is my personal hobbies. I like to work and customize my motorcycles including making my own unique parts because stock bikes are boring and I don't work in a museum. From time to time when the opportunity arises I enjoy fixing and restoring old firearms. I particularly enjoy fabricating missing and broken parts such as springs, firing pins, stocks etc. By far, my absolute favorite pass time is machining. I have set up my small workshop with a lathe, a mill and a surface grinder plus the necessary accessories to make the machinery as useful as possible. Since my kids have gotten into airsoft, I see a need to learn as much as possible to keep their gear working properly and to some day rebuild the internals or even customize their guns when the need arises.
Since I'll probably be asking a lot of questions, I promise to do my best to contribute if I can provide information about welding, machining, or other metal working solutions. I am looking forward to meeting all of you and possibly even meet some of you that play in the Winston-Salem area or NC in general.

Hi Jim,

Check out the archive of "dated" information here:

http://forum.mnairso...wforum.php?f=30

ASB came about as many of us fled ASF due to the direction the Overlord, I mean board admin was taking.

The site I listed has Airsoft information and history that dates back to 2001. Between the two sites...you can glean a lot of information.

I too am an "old" schooler. I used "import" Airsoft from Canada and most players now days never even knew that Canada was a source for Airsoft procurement in the 1990's. Before the ban...

Inheriently AEG's are all blow guns. You can make a MP5 as accurate as a M14. Its all smooth bore blow gun physics...read and ask questions...we are happy to give you our opinions :P
