Hello! As many of you may know, we've initiated a new feature here on Airsoft-Barracks, the ability for users to post classifieds instead of using the current B/S/T sections. It should allow for a streamlined means of buying and selling airsoft items here along with a simpler way of knowing whether or not items are still available. In the spirit of the holidays (and the fact that they’re Saturdays a week apart from each other), we’ve initiated 2 dates that ought to be marked on everyone’s calendar if they’re not already, albeit for different reasons.

The soft transition date will be December 25, 2010, with no more new topics being allowed in the B/S/T section. However replies and updates to existing topics in the section will be allowed.

The hard transition date will be January 1, 2011, with the B/S/T section being closed. Existing topics will remain accessible to allow for their reposting in the new classified section. However, no more new content will be allowed in the B/S/T section.

If you have any suggestions, ideas, gripes, complaints, and/or worries, post them up. We'd like to hear your thoughts and suggestions as to what categories should be included and general layout along with expiration times.

Thanks,
Piano

I like it much better than the BST section. Much clearer in what information needs to go into a sale post, much easier to browse whats for sale, etc. A great addition to the forum!

Neat idea, not sure how it will work out, but it could be real nice. I think the B/S/T forums should be locked while this is open to see just how well it works.

Well, what do you mean? What in B/S/T would you like to have in this new section? We're letting you get used it for a week or so.

I'm not trying to demean you or anything. I just want to get your view on this more deeply.

Transition dates posted. We plan on retaining a list of good buyers and sellers along with a list of feedback for all those who were concerned.

I can sympathize with your feelings Pickles. I have done so much business using the old fashioned B/S/T forum model that it takes some effort to get used to a new system. However, the general trend of online forums is moving toward a more formal classified model (not only in airsoft but on other places as well) which suggests that it is a workable idea. I think that we just need to give it a try and see how it goes and my guess is that we will be pleased with it once we spend some time using it.

As far as Dragon's question goes, I think that it may be a case of getting used to something different. It's not bad, it's just a transition.

We plan on retaining the seller/buyer feedback section. That way people know the history of who they're dealing with.

There might some problems with listing multiple items in one classified ad, due to the ability to list only one price. When you type in words, it ends up displaying "free," so my current suggestion is to list either an average or total price there.

Please keep the suggestions coming.

Will we still be able to give/receive feedback? As for the price, here’s my idea: the posted price is the total, in the thread language itself the seller will set up individual prices. Sellers can edit the required price to reflect the sale or adding of item(s). Just my 2 cents.

Yes, you will be able to still give and receive feedback. Any thoughts on where to move that post when the time comes? I've been on other forums where each buyer or seller has their own feedback thread, which may work, but would be bulky in itself.

Your suggestion regarding price is what I'm currently doing with my B/S/T classified ad in which I'm selling gear.

I like the idea of one's own thread, where the whole history of a member's transactions can be reported. However, it IS pretty bulky.

Therefore, we can put a seller reputation system in that fits IN with the profile, but that may or may not be possible depending on if my PHP skills are good enough.

Will there be any place for WTBs? and a Parts & accessories section might be needed because I can see the misc section becoming crowded & disorganized.

WTS and WTBs will be put together. However, WTBs will have a "WANT" sticker posted by it as opposed to the WTS posts. Feel free to add a random item to test it out - it will be cleared in time for the transition.

I like the idea personally. The whole listing more than one item thing sounds confusing but I'll get over it.

Good point. I was thinking and want everybody's opinion on whether or not there should be separate parts and accessories sections (for Gas, Aegs, etc), or one big section. I think there should be a section devoted to optics at the very least.

You mean like on ASF, or AirsoftSociety?

Whoa.. YES WAY.
I like ASB's sale section BECAUSE its organized like that.
I might cry if you guys combine the sale section.
If we could break a section for AEPs that would be cool.

My suggestion would be a simple Ebay style iTrader system, like on Airsoft Society. Here’s a link my AirsoftSociety iTrader, as an example:

At the moment, we're trying to implement a feedback system that is attached to the user's profile. It would have a smaller footprint than a section devoted to just feedback bust still be visible enough for those seeking to find out whether or not they should be doing business with the other person.

The feedback thread that has been created and is currently in use will remain for the time being. I intend to integrate the feedback that has been stored there into each individual's feedback tab.

Keep the questions and suggestions coming.

Something that was brought up several months ago was the issue of minimum post counts in order to post in the B/S/T Section. Now that we're switching to a new system, what is everybody's opinion on this? Should there be a minimum post count and/or time here on the boards, or should we allow anybody to post a classified ad? I'm looking at this from a buyer protection standpoint.

Thanks,
-Piano

It's just going to cause rank posting issues. I think just allowing everyone to use the classifieds would be fine... it's not like you're going to buy from someone with 0 rep anyway.

I'm really liking the new classifieds. I suggest a reminder for people to size down their attachments. The images open as popups and 3000x2000 popup is no fun.

I agree with JOKER. I think that anyone with an account on here should be able to post, but it's the buyers responsibility to see what kind of feedback the seller has.

As far a feedback is concerned, I like the feedback in profile idea. It would be cool if it showed in the side bar in these regular posts for quick reference (like ASF). If they had a 'comment' styled feedback section in their profile, that would help in figuring out in detail what problems and strengths each buyer/seller has.

I do like the idea of the classifieds section. For me, it would help me to provide the right kind of information when I post. Maybe there could be a template that sellers could use to help them out, especially if they are new to selling. I also like that it seems like it'll be more structured.
